Bloomingdale’s Cancer Awareness Yoga Has Special Meaning for Kim Copland & Jody Domerstad

PFY loves Bloomingdale’s, and we also love supporting a good cause like cancer awareness. So PFY teachers Kim Copeland and Jody Domerstad taught free yoga classes for Bloomingdale’s Willowbrook and Garden State Plaza last weekend.

The class was especially poignant for Kim because her father is a breast cancer survivor. She says he was diagnosed in February 2014 after noticing that one of his nipples had inverted. “We were shocked to learn it was breast cancer,” Kim says. This disease is especially aggressive in men because they don’t have much breast tissue. So the cancer spreads quickly to the lymph nodes, which is what happened to Kim’s dad. He went from stage 2 to stage 3 in a week and a half.

His tumor and lymph nodes were removed swiftly. He did 6 months of chemo and 6 weeks of radiation. “Today, he is cancer free, and we are grateful,” Kim adds.

She was honored to teach this class for Bloomingdale’s. She’s also an ordained minister, so don’t miss her Spirit Flow class on Sundays at 4 pm in Wayne. Jody’s classes are also amazingly popular, and she was thrilled to promote cancer awareness. Catch Jody on Tuesdays in Ridgewood at 4 pm and in Glen Rock on Wednesdays at 4:30 pm and Sundays at 8:30 am.

Yogis paid a $10 donation fee that went toward the Cancer Vixen Fund and The Tutu Project. The classes kicked off Bloomingdale’s PINK campaign, and students took home gift bags and a yoga mat.
