Do Yoga and Raise Money for Africa
Do yoga. Raise money for Africa. Even get a tax deduction! PFY teacher Susie Murphy will be going to Kenya with the Africa Yoga Project this fall. She’s helping a poor Kenyan community develop business skills so they can support themselves and their families. “We are creating new employment opportunities, supporting the community through service work and empowering them through the teachings of yoga,” Susie says.
Susie must raise $4,000–and all of it goes directly to the Africa Yoga Project. (She will pay for her transportation to Kenya and her program fees herself.) AYP provides yoga classes, scholarships, food programs, building projects, medical assistance and employment to 250,000 Kenyans.
To raise money and awareness, she will teach 3 donation-based classes at PFY Livingston, Chatham and Morristown in August. (See details below.) The classes will begin with a short video to bring awareness to the Africa Yoga Project cause. Then Susie will teach a 90-minute Baptiste Journey into Power sequence. She has completed her Level 2 Baptiste training. And she’s turning 50 this year. “I wanted to do something more, something bigger than just me, and in a small way, to help give back to others,” she says.
Susie is passionate about the AYP cause. She cannot wait for her trip on November 3. “The people have never gone to a school, much less been trained in the ins and outs of running a business,” Susie explains. “Our team is going to create a ‘Business in a Box’ for them that will give them step-by-step instructions on how to use the skills they’ve been given to create a true business for them. These skills will change their lives.”
So go to Susie’s classes and donate money. Make checks out to Africa Yoga Project or donate on her Go Fund Me page. Here are the class details:
