3 Day Journey to Inversions w/ Emma Kealy

 

For the month of October, Emma Kealy will be leading a 3 part workshop series taking you on your journey to inversions. Whether experienced on your hands or just starting out, Emma will guide you strategically through the fundamentals of inverting while providing you with the proper alignment to get you up. This is the ultimate guide to safely, and confidently, find strength on your hands. You will leave this workshop with a comprehensive understanding of what you need to do to start, or continue, your journey. 

All sessions will begin with a warm-up of sun salutations, abdominal/shoulder strengthening, and hip/hamstring opening.

Here is what to expect each day:

 

Day 1 10/9: Fundamentals– Let’s align! 

On day one we will explore the proper hand, shoulder, and hip alignment when upside down. The focus will be on abdominal and shoulder strengthening, as well as hip, wrist, and hamstring opening. The day will wrap up with preparing for headstand, forearm stand, and handstand. You will work up a sweat and have a strong physical and mental understanding of where and how to build strength for going upside down.

Day 2 10/16: Drills– Let’s practice!

On day two we will start to explore the inversion shapes in more depth. Headstand pike ups, forearm stand hops, L-shape handstand hops, jump throughs, tuck jumps, pike ups, and much more. Here we will start to see how the strength we are building will come into play. Emma will teach you her master tricks for stability on your hands, and wrap up with more hamstring and hip opening exercises.

Day 3 10/23: Stability– Let’s hang!

On the last day, we will continue to build and play with some more advanced shapes and the steps to get there. Some of the fun will include headstand pike ups, urdvah dandasana hovers, forearm stand press up/puppy press, handstand straddle/puppy/pike press using the wall, hip-opening/strengthening to lift up, and much more.
